The Thai charter airline P.C. Air has made it a policy to actively hire flight attendants who are transgender.
According to the Advocate.com article linked above, the decision came in part from the airline’s awareness that it can be difficult for gender-variant people to find stable jobs. The article also includes a commercial for the airline that includes one of their trans flight attendants.
My initial feelings about this are good - obviously, we can’t complain about trans-inclusive employment opportunities, since there are so few out there. I can see anti-affirmative action folks getting upset about this, though, if it seems a little too much like the airline is hiring people just because they’re trans.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. There’s nothing wrong with making sure you’re hiring a diverse group of people, especially in a country as diverse as Thailand. Right on.
